It’s that time again, with our latest round-up of the top 5 industry tweets from October.

1. Superstar wheelchair design

Good design for a good cause. Not only is the Superstar wheelchair a sleek and highly functional product for wheelchair users, but it also is a brilliant example on the power of using the right material for the right project.
Made from graphene, the atom-thick, super strong material that was first engineered in 2004 and went on to win its creators the Nobel Prize in Physics, the Superstar is claiming to be the lightest wheelchair in the world. This is great for users, a large percentage of whom experience muscle pain and ailments in their upper body from using their wheelchairs. Find out more about the product here.

2. Personalised razors

Razors are one household item that most of us use on a daily or weekly basis. 3D printing on the other hand, is not. Gillette decided to join the two and offer customers the ability to personalise the handle of their razor, thanks to 3D printing technology. You can find out more about it on their Razor Maker site.

3. What’s the need?

Charles Eames (who, along with his wife Ray, designed the famous Eames lounge chair) is seen as one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. He often promoted the importance of design needing to have a purpose, or more importantly, solve a problem.

4. Inspiration for startups

It’s tough to be a product startup. We talked recently about the importance of product testing, even after launching, in our blog about the 5 steps all product startups must take, and this tweet drives that idea home.

5. Inspiration for product designers

And finally, a little inspiration for young product designers. This is a great list of resources that any product designer will find useful, young or old.
