Promoting Your Products Before They Launch

For your product launch to be effective, you’ll want people to be expecting it by the time it actually arrives. There are all sorts of ways you can build the hype. You should look at your product launch as being one part of a greater promotional effort, and ensure you’re doing all the important lead-up promo work so that the launch is explosive. The following are a few ways you can get your new product all the attention it deserves in the lead-up to launch day.

Teaser campaigns

A really effective way to hype your product and build public interest before it’s launched is to run a teaser marketing campaign surrounding the launch. Putting up posters, stickers and so forth announcing that something big is going to happen — along with a company logo — will tap into people’s curiosity and make them want to know more. As you get closer to the launch date, use your teaser campaign to gradually reveal more about the product design and development — but don’t reveal too much, as you’ll still want it to be a surprise on the day.

Your website

If people are familiar with the type of product you’re releasing — for example, if it’s the latest in a series of books or an older product being re-released with an improved product design — you should expect high interest. You can use your website to take orders or even pre-sell products, and your website is also a great way to show pictures of the new item and explain all of its features and benefits.

In store

When people are in your store checking out similar products, let them know about the upcoming product launch, and maybe even have a prototype on hand to display. The staff at your store can play a huge role in hyping up the product if they are hyped about it too, so make sure they know the new product inside out so they can accurately answer questions posed by curious customers.

Offer freebies

Depending on the product, you may be able to release free sample versions to get people excited. This is a great approach if your new product is food, as getting a taste for something new is what will have people lining up to buy it on launch day.

Give out coupons

In the month leading up to the launch of your product, hand out discount vouchers that can be used to purchase the new product when it’s launched. Make sure it’s valid only for the first day. Offering a discount will get people’s attention, and you’re sure to have a larger crowd to help celebrate the big launch.

Making a big deal of launching a new product is a great way to help it sell quickly. Do your groundwork, build the hype, and you’ll hopefully sell out of that new product within hours of the launch.
