The 21st century has seen some impressive inventions and innovations emerging in technology, design, and automotive industries. As these new products become more readily available, we are seeing changes in our daily habits and lifestyles.
In this blog, we’re sharing three 21st-century inventions that have changed the world.
Augmented and Virtual Reality
Immersing yourself in an imaginary world and having an adventure is now possible, thanks to virtual reality. The invention of virtual reality headsets has changed the gaming industry forever. Many major electronics manufacturers are producing their own VR headsets and they are gradually becoming more affordable.
Augmented reality is also becoming more popular. For example, Pokemon Go and Snapchat use AR to add virtual layers to real-life objects for a more interactive experience. They bring the game into your own world.
Augmented and virtual reality technology is also being used in product design as a way for designers to bring their prototypes to life. Utilising software named Gravity Sketch, industrial designers are able to conceptualise their products as they sketch and design them. Check out this video to witness Brooklyn-based industrial designer Nicholas Baker use Gravity to turn his ideas into a very understandable design.
Smartphones
One of the biggest inventions of the 21st century so far is the smartphone. The first iPhone came out in 2007, and then other brands followed suit.
The smartphone has literally changed our lives, influencing how we communicate, bank, order food, work, play, socialise and relax. It’s become hard to live without.
Furthermore, the product design of smartphones, specifically iPhones, has significantly changed over the years. Originally launched in 2007 with a home button, earphone jack and a visible frame bordering the screen, the design of the iPhone has undergone considerable innovative improvements in the last two decades, ultimately making the product more user-friendly with upgraded features such as a powerful camera, longer battery life and water resistance.
Electric and Driverless Cars
Electric cars are another recent invention that is changing the future of the automotive industry. Recent improvements in their batteries mean that they will be able to last longer, go further, charge faster, and be more efficient.
Tesla is also introducing driverless cars, and other manufacturers like Volvo are following. Driverless cars are the technology of the future. They could help to reduce human error in driving, resulting in fewer accidents. They also could present an opportunity for people who are unable to drive due to an illness or disability to get their independence.
The 21st century has only just gotten started, and we’re sure there will be plenty more inventions coming our way soon.
