New Technology Improves Inspection Accuracy of Injection Moulded Refrigerator Parts

Until recently, most third party inspectors have used a fixed-base Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to inspect the accuracy of plastic injection-moulded refrigerator parts. 3D Engineering Solutions, an ISO 17025 certified third-party inspector, has since announced the successful use of new scanning technology that captures millions of data points during inspection rather than just hundreds. Rob Glassburn, Vice President of Operations for the company, said, “Scanning of the refrigerator parts allowed us to gain greater qualitative information than the previous technology allowed. Scanning, in general, is at the leading edge of the technology of metrology.” The scanning technology helps inspectors receive a more realistic image of the parts they are looking at, and in a much shorter period of time than was possible with CMM probing. Scanning allows for a higher level of quantitative data and qualitative information so that design and manufacturing engineers can improve the appearance and function of parts.
