Injection Moulding Overview

Injection moulding is one of the most widely used polymer-moulding techniques in the world. It is used to produce everything from automotive parts and gear transmissions to furniture and household items.

Cost factors

One of the reasons why injection moulding has been so widely used is due to its cost benefits. The injection-moulding process is fast and facilitates mass production.

Injection moulding is usually inexpensive; however, if the manufacturer needs to utilise a complicated mould and expensive materials are used, the cost benefits may be diminished.

The manufacturing process

The actual process involved in plastics injection moulding is fairly simple. Resins or plastic, often in granulated form, are fed into the machine for heating. When liquefied to the right degree, the resin is forced or ‘injected’ into a mould, reported News Researchers.

The moulds are then cooled down to allow the resin to set and take shape. The items are then released from the mould and are ready to be delivered and used.
