Originally, hand-sharpening was the industry norm, a slow, inconsistent, and high-risk method that often resulted in wasted product. The Pendulum sharpener replaces this approach with a compact, professional-grade tool that delivers clean, repeatable results in seconds. Designed specifically for use with Pendulum’s Definitude Pencils, the sharpener uses synchronised internal blades, calibrated springs, and precision guiding geometry to form a clean chisel tip without breakage.

All blades are fully enclosed for user safety, shavings are neatly captured within the internal chamber, and a transparent front window allows artists to view the mechanism in operation. Designed in collaboration with an industry professional, the Dienamics team undertook iterative prototyping to refine blade tension, user feedback, and pencil compatibility. The result is a sleek, salon-ready tool that is serviceable, durable, and intuitive to use.

Design Collaboration Across the Country

Despite the interstate distance, Pendulum and Dienamics collaborated seamlessly throughout the development process. Design development, prototyping, and tooling were led from our Brisbane facility, while Katri and the Pendulum PMU community in Ballarat provided ongoing user testing and industry insight. This collaborative approach ensured the final product met real-world professional requirements from day one.

The sharpener has since gained rapid traction across Australia and internationally, strengthening Pendulum’s brand while raising safety and workflow standards across the PMU industry. It is another proudly Australian-designed and Australian-made solution, injection moulded and assembled at Dienamics in Brisbane, modernising a decades-old practice and setting a new professional benchmark for PMU artists worldwide.
